While Wisdom Born Consulting is not a non-profit organization, I will be highlighting ones that are making a positive impact in their communities. From providing education and healthcare to promoting social justice and environmental sustainability, these organizations are doing important work that deserves recognition and support. By donating time, money, or resources, we can all play a role in making a difference and helping these non-profits achieve their goals. Let’s work together to create a better future for all.

Antares Capital is launching the Antares REACH Grant Program to support entrepreneurs from historically underrepresented groups in building venture-scalable businesses.

The Antares REACH Grant Program offers $20,000 grants, along with access to business resources, to founders with growth potential and a capacity to make a significant impact in their industries. The program aims to level the playing field, fuel growth, and encourage innovation.
The eligibility criteria for the application are being a U.S. resident with a majority (51%+) ownership and operation of a for-profit company by entrepreneurs from historically underrepresented groups. The application deadline is on August 4, 2023, at 6:00 PM ET.

In 2016, my son and I moved from New York to Newport News, VA. He was just seven years old at the time, and it was a daunting experience to leave our home and start anew together. I joined the AmeriCorps VISTA program to volunteer with a youth development organization. During this time, I had the chance to draft an in-kind donation letter and help with two grant proposals. The joy of learning that the donation request was accepted was indescribable. Moreover, the first grant proposal I worked on received funding. Although the second one was not successful, the feedback I received was incredibly positive. It reminded me of a comment a professor made during my undergraduate years, suggesting that my writing would benefit others.
After finishing my VISTA service year, the organization hired me as a youth development professional. Subsequently, I was promoted to program director and, eventually, grants director. The journey was truly remarkable. The opportunity to write and champion programs that positively impacted youth allowed to to see that yes, my writing can make a difference in the lives of others.
Transitioning from a nonprofit organization to freelancing as a grant writer has been a challenging journey. Some moments made me question my decisions, especially as a single mom with my son’s needs as my top priority. Despite the uncertainties, I believe in following my heart’s desire and pursuing my vision and mission. Instead of ignoring it, I chose to take a leap of faith and chase after my dreams so that my son could witness my journey.
This explains why I opted for grant writing as a career and why Wisdom Born Consulting is dedicated to supporting community-based grassroots organizations. In the realm of grant funding, the competition is intense, with major nonprofit organizations and established institutions enjoying recognition and longevity among funders. For smaller grassroots organizations, securing funding can pose a significant challenge. Nevertheless, these organizations are led by individuals who are equally passionate and committed to their causes. The programs and services they develop and implement are equally crucial and necessary.
When it comes to being a grants writer, whether you’re a freelancer, independent contractor, or part of a nonprofit organization, passion is key. It’s not about the glamour; the proposals you craft can bring in funds that benefit others more than yourself. However, if you have a genuine passion for this field, you’ll take pride in knowing that your work is making a difference in many lives. Helping organizations secure funding to realize their visions and missions for community change can bring immense joy and fulfillment. Grant writing is not only rewarding but also an honorable endeavor. My experience as a grants director showed me firsthand the transformative impact of grant writing in assisting others.
Wisdom Born Consulting is dedicated to assisting community-based grassroots organizations in addressing the diverse needs of modern families and communities. As we navigate through this era of increased awareness and emphasis on social impact and diversity, equity, and inclusion, it is crucial to recognize the profound influence these factors have on our society. Businesses are increasingly being held accountable for their practices, not only in terms of profitability but also in terms of their contributions to social good.
The importance of managing diversity and fostering inclusion cannot be overstated. By creating environments where individuals from all backgrounds feel valued and respected, organizations can harness a wealth of perspectives and experiences to drive innovation and success. Embracing Social Impact Theory allows us to understand the ripple effects of our actions and decisions on the broader community, encouraging us to make choices that benefit not just ourselves, but society as a whole.
An article from Duke University’s Career Hub provides an excellent breakdown and explanation of Social Impact and the objectives of Social Impact Organizations. Enjoy the music, and may you find this information beneficial.
Why is Social Impact important?
Social impact is important because it signifies the positive change that individuals and organizations can make in society. By focusing on social impact, we can address pressing issues such as poverty, inequality, environmental sustainability, and access to education and healthcare. Social impact initiatives can create a ripple effect, inspiring others to join the cause and work towards a better world for all. Ultimately, prioritizing social impact leads to a more compassionate, equitable, and sustainable society for current and future generations.

Resource Development is a very important area that any organization must master in order to effectively manifest its goals and objectives. The following information comes from the Code Of Ethical Principles And Standards from the Association of Fundraising Professionals. This information is being shared because Wisdom Born Consulting understands the importance of financial transparency as being fundamental to any organization’s ability to fulfill its mission, vision and goals. No organization can be effective in its work and gain the trust of those they serve and support if it is not adhering to the most ethical of practices and standards. Even if you are not a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the goal is for resource development professionals being aware of the existing ethical principles and practices that do guide art and work of fundraising, whether it’s done through direct solicitation of donations or by submitting grant proposals to potential corporate, foundation and governement donors.
