The Core Philosophy

I believe that lasting social change requires more than just funding; it requires a story that resonates deep within a community’s DNA. Whether it’s a youth development program in an under-resourced neighborhood, a climate justice coalition fighting for our planet, or an artist trying to sustain their practice, the challenge is the same: How do we turn vision into viability?

My work is rooted in the belief that every organization and artist holds a ‘living song’ – a unique rhythm of value that needs to be heard, understood, and resourced. I don’t just write proposals or manage budgets; I help mission-driven leaders find their voice, articulate their impact, and build the infrastructure needed to ensure their work endures.

The Foundation

For years, my primary focus has been supporting grassroots nonprofits in environmental justice and youth development. Working with organizations often marginalized by traditional funding systems, I’ve helped them secure critical grants, refine their narratives, and build sustainable revenue streams.

Through GrantWise Solutions, I guide leaders through the complexities of the philanthropic landscape, turning complex data into compelling stories that funders want to back. My approach here is strategic and rigorous: ensuring that when a community says, ‘We need resources,’ they have the evidence and the language to get them.

The Expansion

Recently, I expanded my practice to include Arts and Cultural Consulting. Why? Because I’ve seen too many brilliant artists and cultural groups struggle to survive simply because they lack the strategic tools to monetize their impact.

Art is not separate from justice; it is the engine of it. My work in this space helps visual artists, writers, and performing groups apply the same grant strategies used by large NGOs to the creative sector. We explore funding opportunities, develop sustainability plans, and position artistic projects as essential civic infrastructure.

The Intellectual Engine

A critical pillar of my practice is sovereign research – scholarship rooted in Black Historical and Cultural Continuity. This work operates outside traditional institutional funding; it is born from community needs, oral lineages, and a responsibility to document what formal archives often omit or erase.

My methodology is community-centered, employing oral history, participatory documentation, and archival recovery practices developed within Black scholarly traditions. Findings are shared publicly for transparency and access, prioritizing communal benefit over institutional gatekeeping.

Through The Wisdom Born Archive, I share findings on how communities sustain themselves across time – the rhythms of memory, the economics of survival, and the cultural technologies passed through generations. This research is not merely theoretical; it is the bedrock of my consulting. When a nonprofit asks, “Why does this matter?” – my research provides the ledger. When an artist asks, “Where do I fit in history?” – my research provides the context.

Sovereign research means I answer to the communities I serve first, funders second. It ensures that the knowledge generated serves continuance, not extraction.

Who I Am

My professional journey is deeply personal. As Natisha (who also writes under the name Benu Ma’at), I bring a dual perspective to my consulting: the analytical rigor of a grant strategist and the imaginative depth of a storyteller.

The name Wisdom Born reflects my philosophy: that true wisdom isn’t handed down; it is born from the lived experiences of communities, the rhythm of their struggles, and the creativity of their solutions. I am here to help you honor that wisdom and translate it into action.
